Project Manager (Sacramento, CA)

The purpose of this position is to manage the construction and implementation of energy efficiency upgrades and retrofits relating to lighting and HVAC units. The Project Manager is directly accountable for construction deliverables and managing local subcontractors.  Company’s clients are medium and small commercial facilities and may include public buildings. This position will report to the local Regional Project Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Manages all facets of construction for individual and portfolio energy efficiency and smart building projects including scheduling site surveys, planning, scheduling, permitting, construction, commissioning, and closeout.

Under Regional PM guidance, facilitates contractor meetings. Ensure projects are built to code and fully functioning. Recruit and manage the work of local HVAC and electrical contractors with support from the Regional Project Manager.

Responsible for tracking progress of each project against goals, objectives, approved budgets, approved timelines. Reports status and variances. Creates action plans to meet objectives, budget and schedule.

Implements change management to assess change requests, make recommendations, secure client approvals, and issue change orders. Assesses change requests to determine impacts to scope, budget, and schedule.

The position requires frequent regional travel to Company’s project locations and local contractor offices.

Willingness to travel to:

  • Project locations under Construction Manager’s regional responsibility (usually within a 90-120 mile radius);
  • JouleSmart’s corporate headquarters in Portland, Oregon for training, meetings, and corporate events (quarterly or less).

QUALIFICATIONS

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

Required: Previous exposure to HVAC and/or Electrical trades is required

Required: Bachelor’s degree in project management, Construction Management, Business, Engineering or other applicable fields of study.

Required: 1+ year experience as a Project Manager

Understanding of local contracting workforce and licensing requirements.

CERTIFICATES and/or LICENSES

Journeyman level experience in HVAC or Electrical A PLUS

Certified Lighting Professional A PLUS

Certified Energy Manager A PLUS

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational and analytical skills. Ability to provide efficient, timely, reliable and courteous service to customers. Ability to effectively present information.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to comprehend and analyze floor plans, bill of materials, and permitting plan sets. Ability to solve problems related to installation complexities.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES

Practical knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite and Salesforce.com. Ability to read and understand technical drawings, such are architectural and electrical plans. Troubleshooting network communication issues.
